Craig S. Kaplan’s Groundbreaking “Aperiodic” Discovery

Long-time Azmas collaborator, Craig S. Kaplan, recently made international headlines for a breakthrough discovery in the realm of mathematical art.

Kaplan and a team of researchers discovered a 13-sided shape, dubbed “the hat”, that can tile a plane infinitely without ever repeating. The so-called einstein tile, which has been covered in prestigious outlets including The New York Times, Quanta, and Scientific American, is the result of extensive collaboration between a network of “tiling enthusiasts” in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Having worked with Kaplan himself on a number of mathematical masterpieces ourselves, we’re delighted to witness the reception he’s had so far.
